PRAIRIE by Craftsmen: Third Pastel Blue Outlet at Joo Chiat

You would think amidst a raging pandemic that it would have put a damper on most F&B openings, especially with the constant back and forth between dine-in and takeaway only rules that Singapore has been bouncing between over the past few months.

Well, the Craftsmen Coffee group sure are ambitious, with a third PRAIRIE outlet that has just opened at Joo Chiat.

The debut Bukit Timah outlet featured shades of pastel green, while the second River Valley joint pulled from shades of peach and pink.

For this third branch, Joo Chiat’s PRAIRIE features calming shades of blue instead, albeit mostly in their alfresco dining area, with a more orange / peach aesthetic inside save for the counter.

And indeed, what a year it has been for cafes and pastels, with coffeehouses all over the island from Habitat to the Canteen by Trapeze Rec. Club to Éla to Neptune, etc. it’s fair to say we’ve largely finally moved on from the botanical aesthetic.

All PRAIRIE outlets have an indoor and outdoor dining area, and this is no different.

Joo Chiat’s outdoor area is pretty big though, possibly to accommodate pet owners.

Menu wise, the offerings are a little more limited compared the other branches, but you can still expect to find all-day breakfast, burgers, pastas, mains and more.

We had the Mentaiko Pasta, which was decent, and the Chicken Stew that I’ve had iterations of at other cafes like Atlas Coffeehouse.

I have to say though, I preferred Atlas’ creamier soup base which I found more flavourful.

All three PRAIRIE outlets offer a similar experience and vibe.

And while I think PRAIRIE’s food is fine enough, it is rather pricey, coming up to almost S$30 a person for a main and a coffee, which well, the food has to be really great for it to warrant that price tag for me.
