Butler Koffee: New Tranquil Hidden Coffee Joint at the Edge of Chinatown
I love my coffee spots. I love the ones that are tucked away in little corners. But above all, I love the ones that are quiet little spaces where I can spend a chill afternoon.
So imagine my surprise when Butler Koffee provided me that slice of oasis, in a time when it feels like cafes are getting more and more packed, especially on weekends where it’s almost impossible to walk in and get a table immediately.
I should add, though, that according to owner Alicia, the crowds can really depend on the time and day— so I’m glad the cafe was relatively empty at the time of my visit.
Sandwiched between Chinatown and Outram, both of which are bustling at the best of times, located near Kreta Ayer Community Centre is a little unassuming hideout where Butler Koffee has just opened it’s doors.
Sharing the space with a nondescript scuba diving store, Butler Koffee is easy to miss, save for the few seats and high tables along the corridor, overlooking the beautiful heritage shophouses just across the road, perfect for a spot of people watching.

The menu here is deliberately kept simple, with your usual coffee and tea suspects.
An espresso begins at S$4, and we had the Iced White (S$6) and Iced Mocha (S$6).
Coffee here is medium-bodied, with nutty, chocolatey notes.

They are also known for their cold brew, at S$8 a pop.
If you’d like some bakes to go with your coffee, you can order some courtesy of a partnership with Bakelette.
The Midnight Brownie (S$5) is the recommended bake of choice, which you can have served warm to get the best of the gooey molten chocolate core.
I love unpretentious, quiet coffee joints, so I definitely foresee myself making Butler one of my go-to spots whenever I’m in the area.
