Brew & Co: Gorgeous Coffee Joint with Pastries at Ang Mo Kio
It’s interesting to see how the cafe scene has evolved in Singapore, ever since it was noted that Forty Hands in Tiong Bahru kickstarted a whole wave of new-age coffee shops in the country, and particularly in humble neighbourhood estates.
A decade and a bit later, coffee joints are in almost every nook-and-cranny of this tropical island.
From large chains taking up prime retail space to hidden individual stores tucked away in little corners, you’re never too far from a good cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Enter Brew & Co, a new upstart located at Ang Mo Kio, which opened up just this year.

With pastries sourced from other bakeries, Brew & Co embodies the art of slower living, the simple furnishing and wooden accents around designed to bring their customers a sense of calm.
The actual shop, located next to an uh, domestic helper agency, is tiny, with nothing more than a workspace, counter, pastry cabinet display and small bench. You’ll find a handful seats and tables just outside instead, which fill up quickly, even on a weekday.
We had a hot Matcha Latte (S$5.50) and an Iced Dirty Matcha (S$6.50), accompanied with a Plain Croissant (S$5).

The matcha latte here is sweetened, so opt for the dirty option if you don’t have much of a sweet tooth.
The matcha profile here also isn’t as earthy as I hoped, and came without that classic slightly bitter aftertaste. The drinks looked very pretty though, and the espresso, milk and matcha flavour combination was pretty well-balanced. Fans of matcha lattes that aren’t too bitter will love Brew & Co’s take on it.
The croissant was good, buttery and crispy at the same time, just the way it should be.
Overall, Brew & Co is a simple and unfussed joint, and does what it does well.
It’s no surprise that it’s already become such a hit with residents.
