Chanterelle Cafe: New Healthy Brunch Cafe at Siglap
Joining the slew of new cafes that have opened up along the East Coast as of late is Chanterelle Cafe (as in chanterelle the mushroom) located on the first floor of Siglap V, just minutes away from the new Five Oars Coffee Roasters and next door to Common Man Coffee Roasters.

Yes, you read that right, the Egg-Free Egg Toast (S$17.90) features local brand OsomeFood’s plant-based eggs, made of almond milk, carrot juice, white chia seeds and turmeric. These ingredients are a vegan alternative to collagen.
They have also partnered with BobtheBakerBoy to retail their cakes in-store, which also feature 30 - 50% less sugar.

As you step indoors, you’ll find a very clean, minimalist white and grey interior, with a number of tables around.
It’s obviously become quite a hit with residents already, as even on a Friday morning as I popped in for breakfast, the cafe was already at about 75% full.
They offer a selection of pastries on the counter, and I opted for the Chocolate Croissant (S$4.40) which was toasted just before serving.
The croissant was delightfully flaky, and toasted perfectly. I could have done with a tad more chocolate in my croissant but that might just be my penchant for sweet things talking, and perhaps this might be in keeping with the healthy theme throughout the menu.
I had the Flat White (S$5) to go with my pastry, which was a decent cuppa. Coffee here is roasted courtesy of Bright Artisan Roasters, and their selected espresso blend is of Columbian, Brazilian, Guatemalan, Peruvian and Ethiopian origin.
While there are several dishes with mushrooms in them, the emphasis on mushrooms per se honestly is not that heavy, and the only thing I had was a cute little savoury mushroom chip served with my coffee, in place of a biscuit many other cafes might opt for. I’ve personally not had mushroom chips before so I thought it was a nice novelty.
Chanterelle Cafe doesn’t break the mould, though I get the feeling that was never the goal.
If you’re looking for a nice, reliable cafe with simple, unpretentious healthy fare, you’ll find it here.
I even got to exchange a few words with the owner who was working that day, and the whole atmosphere felt very cosy and very much like a family-run affair, complete with attentive and welcoming waitstaff.
