The Kins' Specialty Coffee: Burnt Cheesecake and Brunch in Pasir Panjang
When it comes to the area of Pasir Panjang, there aren’t that many cafes around— especially since On the Table closed it’s doors in March 2019, leaving the door wide open for a new player to come around.

Well, enter The Kins’ Specialty Coffee.
Just steps away from the MRT station lies the unassuming cafe, located at the foot of a condominium by the name of Bijou.
With both indoor and outdoor seating, you get to choose between clean, white, minimalist aesthetics indoors, or sunlight and greenery outdoors. Mind, as much of a dream the outdoors might look like, with strong sunlight pouring in from above, it does get a little warm on the best of our sunny days.
The Kins opened just last year, and they specialise in burnt cheesecake.
Happily though, they do have a plenty on the menu for those looking to have a proper brunch.
We had the Farm Fresh Duck Confit ($22), as well as the Lobster Mac & Cheese ($15).
The Duck Confit was brilliant. Often with this dish, you’ll find many places serving up meat that is far too dry and tough, but the duck here was mouthwateringly juicy. The free range duck confit was also served with garlic french beans, potato, onion, and served with a delicious orange mustard seed marmalade on the side.
The Lobster Mac & Cheese was good too, and was surprisingly light on the palette and not overbearingly cheesy. This means savouring every bite is easily done, without it getting cloying towards the end.
Other options on the menu range from brunch favourites like Eggs Benedict ($16) and Big Brekkie ($22), rice bowls, salads, as well as pasta and soba dishes. An eclectic mix maybe, but one that’ll surely have something for everyone.
As for dessert, we had the Kins’ Burnt Cheesecake ($8). For houjicha lovers, you’ll be happy to know they have a Houjicha Burnt Cheesecake ($8.50) as well.
The cheesecake served didn’t look, well, all that appetising, but thankfully it tastes better than it looks. The cheesecake is very soft and creamy in texture, and isn’t overly heavy on the palette. Unlike other burnt cheesecakes though, only the top layer is burnt at The Kins, and I personally would have preferred if the sides of the cake were also burnt, just to add more flavour and texture to the dish.
The specialty coffee from Two Degrees North Coffee Co here’s also great.
The Iced White had a good balance and was not too acidic.
Overall, The Kins' is a great place to spend the afternoon, with a peaceful, relaxed vibe. Food is a cut above the average cafe, with a nice variety of options that would certainly warrant repeat visits. Coffee here’s great, and if you’re a fan of burnt cheesecake, this makes for the perfect cherry on top.
